FIELD GUIDE / ATTRIBUTION

How to measure manufacturing SEO against qualified RFQs.

If a sales cycle spans months, organic traffic alone does not tell you whether SEO is commercially effective. This guide defines the stages, fields and checks needed to connect website demand to quotes and eventual business.

AN INDUSTRIAL BUYING EXAMPLE

Illustrative scenario — not a client result
EXAMPLE BUYER QUERY“illustrative journey: application guide → catalogue page → technical enquiry”Illustration, not measured search volume.
THE VISIBILITY GAP

Marketing calls all contact forms leads, while sales rejects many as unsupported requests.

THE SEO INTERVENTION

Create explicit stages for delivered enquiry, qualified RFQ, quote issued and won account, with a shared source record.

THE COMMERCIAL SIGNAL

Trend in accepted RFQs and attributable quoted pipeline, with uncertainty disclosed.

THE COMMERCIAL PROBLEM

Where a buyer gets stuck.

A pipeline measure sales and marketing can use together.

  • 01

Every contact submission is classified as a commercial lead.

  • 02

Replacement-part support, recruitment and project RFQs are combined.

  • 03

Long-cycle opportunities vanish from attribution after the first call.

  • 04

Agencies report keyword rankings without reconciling CRM outcomes.

OUR DELIVERY APPROACH

How to apply this guide.

01

Define a shared lead taxonomy

Agree with sales what counts as an enquiry, qualified RFQ, quote and won account. An enquiry may be valid but unqualified if the project is out of scope, outside service geography or beyond production capacity.

  • Enquiry received: delivered and attributable contact
  • Qualified RFQ: commercially suitable and sufficiently scoped
  • Quote issued: formal commercial response
  • Won opportunity: accepted order or signed agreement
02

Preserve origin data without overcollection

Capture landing page, channel, campaign where relevant and time of enquiry, subject to privacy requirements and consent practices. Include a stable CRM identifier so off-platform sales progress can be reconciled.

03

Build a funnel you can actually trust

Review forms, calls and inbox routing before putting conversion figures on a slide. Instrumented events without confirmed delivery should not be counted as received enquiries. Keep a log of unknown-source opportunities rather than retroactively crediting SEO.

04

Report two timescales

In the near term track search visibility on priority capabilities, organic qualified enquiries and quote movement. Over longer windows assess quote acceptance, contract value and repeat purchasing, accounting for the time required to close.

05

Use an opportunity-weighted review

Where values are known, compare potential pipeline value and probability of close with the cost of acquisition. Do not treat unverified pipeline estimates as booked revenue. Use this review to redirect SEO effort toward the product families that sales can realistically fulfil.

PRACTICAL TAKEAWAYS

Take something into your next review.

Clear outputs make this work accountable to product, engineering and sales stakeholders.

QUESTIONS WE HEAR

Questions worth settling before delivery.

Every programme should reflect what the business actually manufactures and where it can sell.

Can GA4 tell us all organic revenue?

Not by itself when negotiations and sales close offline. CRM reconciliation and data quality are essential.

How many leads are enough for statistical testing?

It depends on baseline and variation; for small industrial samples, qualitative research and directional trends may be more appropriate than overstated significance.

START WITH THE RIGHT QUESTION

Turn your technical visibility into sales conversations.

Tell us which products, regions and kinds of RFQs you want more of. We will assess whether the opportunity fits a specialist SEO programme.
